Centenary Bank
Role:
Draft and review legal documents including pleadings, contracts, credit facilities and securities and represent the bank in legal matters including in courts of law in line with the law, bank policies, regulations and best practice. Conduct legal research and provide legal advice to mitigate risk and safeguard bank interest.
Key Result Areas:
- Assist and collaborate with management in the perfection and registration of credit documents and securities for compliance with relevant legislation.
- Conduct legal research and provide legal advice and guidance for proactive compliance of the Bank with new legislation and best practices impacting the operating environment.
- Draft and review contracts entered into by the Bank in its operations including but not limited to procurement of goods, services and engagement with partners.
- Draft, review and approve documentation for provision of loans and advances to Bank customers in line with Divisional mandates.
- Prepare divisional reports in line with the division guidelines and advise on appropriate legal risk and performance management measures and action.
- Provide legal advice/opinions and draft responses to notices of intention to sue from customers or their legal representative to redress customers or enforce bank’s rights
- Represent the Bank in courts of law and the Legal division at Management Committees and inter-divisional meetings.
- Review investigation reports, enquiries and internal audit findings and make recommendations for appropriate legal action to redress/safeguard the Bank.
- Support Management in monitoring and reporting compliance with divisional SLAs and in the management of staff, external resource providers and budget performance.
Education and Professional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in law and diploma in legal practice (LDC)
Required Experience and Competences:
- At least 2 years’ experience of Court Practice.
- 1 year bank in-house counsel practice is an added advantage
