Global Health Uganda
Global Health Uganda (GHU) is a registered not for profit, limited liability company with the mission to promote child health by conducting and facilitating quality and relevant research in child health, neurodevelopment and interventions. GHU invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the positions of Lab Technologist.
Main duties and responsibilities:
• Collect, receive, process, and aliquot study participants’ biological specimens including venous blood, urine, and stool, among others.
• Prepare, stain, and examine thick and thin malaria microscopy smears for parasite detection/quantification and species identification, respectively.
• Prepare Dried Blood Spots (DBS) using filter papers.
• Perform rapid diagnostic tests (malaria, HIV, Schistosoma, etc.,)
• Print barcoded labels to identify participants’ biological specimens/aliquots, slides, and laboratory request forms.
• Perform tests using automated equipment such as chemistry analyzer among others.
• Prepare samples for -80°C freezer storage.
• Complete study Case Report Forms (CRFs).
• Log participants’ specimen aliquots into a sample/data management system.
• Participate in data entry into an electronic data management system.
• Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment including microscopes, centrifuge, micropipettes, etc
